We are what we eat : too much sugar, too much processed meat, too many bad fats, alcohol and sodas, too much fast food... Statistics on modern illness are exploding. Within a single generation, there are already 20% more cancers and 30% of the population is overweight (more in the USA).

Did you know our Cro-Magnon ancestor was taller than us (about 6 feet-tall) and lived longer? All our modern diseases - cancer, cardio-vascular disease, obesity, cellulite, diabetes, osteoporosis, allergies...- were unknown to him.
|
|
Good and natural foods …and walking. Cro-Magnon didn’t have TV nor did he own a 4-wheel drive vehicle. His recreational time - his life, in other words - was devoted to hunting and food gathering.
Ever since the dawn of time, the world over, man, besides fruit and mushrooms and other obvious foods, has been picking cinnamon and clove, cardamom and grains of paradise, saffron and nutmeg.

Apicius, the famous roman cook who wrote the oldest known cook book, used these spices profusely. By controlling the spice route, between the Occident and the far East, Arab merchants first, then the Genovese and the Venetians assured themselves vast fortunes. It is while seeking a new spice route that merchants and seafarers (Marco Polo, Vasco de Gama, Magellan, and Christopher Columbus) marked the beginning of a great era of discovery and established future colonial empires. Under the reign of Louis XIV, a spice box, as an engagement present, was much more valued than a diamond ring!
