SPICE COOKERY COURSES FROM MIAM MIAM:
WITH EXPERIENCE YOU HAVE MORE FUN!
When you are a “woman of the moment”, on good form, with the time and the desire to make the most of life, to enjoy, discover, travel and learn. The problem could be not enough time and not to much to do to fill your day.
A lively woman between 50 and 70 years of age has better things to do when she’s finished doting on her grandchildren, than playing scrabble and getting bored taking tea with her old friends. However she can’t spend every week climbing the Kilimanjaro, learning Chinese or quantum physics.
Here at the Miam Miam association we don’t pretend that our spice cookery weekends will change the life of a jaunty senior but at least it will introduce fantasy, delight, the unexpected, savoir faire. In fact it’s up to each one to find what she likes in these “gourmet” meetings. As everyone knows, a good table is always full of friends.
The Place? Within easy reach of Montpellier, a large old silk factory in the Cevennes with thick walls built over the course of several centuries enclosed in a garden deep in the village of Aulas. Above Aulas is the pastoral country of Mont Aigoual dotted with trees; Around Aulas, woods and fallow land for picking berries, mushrooms flowers and ferns.
The time? Weekends from Thursday evening to Sunday evening with a preference for the current season – march to November (hurry to make the most of the sun, the streams and the blooms).
With whom? A dozen other food lovers, couples, singles, curious, and bubbly friends here, like you, to discover the secrets of spices under the jovial direction of Patrick du Cros, a hedonist cook, who has made more than 50 trips around the world and who will tell you anecdotes about his travels in front of the large fireplace in the evenings. Together with our new friends we will devise menus both exotic and healthy, both tasty and festive.
Of course, by way of punishment, there follows the tasting of a small drink, chilled in the garden, or under the old arches of the kitchen built in the 12th century.
We do not only rediscover the uses of the old traditional spices: coriander, ginger, nutmeg, cloves etc, but we also look into the mysteries of flavors from Thailand, Indonesia, China… India, Morocco and Lebanon with …Here, why not a chicken with ten spices, marinated “Baalbek” style, served with eggplant caviar, pureed chick peas and the “real” parsley and mint bulgur wheat taboule? Oh yes. It’s a change from pizza and chips drowned in ketchup. The men are already licking their lips;
They can come? Well yes, of course. Not only can your friends give you an original weekend to celebrate the anniversary of your first meeting, your silver wedding, or your retirement, but they can come also with you…And do some cooking? – and how about you making a present of a course? One is no longer serious when one knows life.
